MARK OF TIME
New housing estates cling like foreign bodies to ancient city centres. Over time, an organic relationship develops with the historic centre. The Kersenboogerd estate could have been built anywhere in the Netherlands, for example. From the point of city planning and architectural considerations, the new estate has little relation to the ancient character of Hoorn, the Netherlands. The element of time is missing.
A group of building workers, watched by residents of the Kersenboogerd estate, place a golden needle in the heart of the island. A needle with which the sun will inscribe its story on a scale of worn stones scattered around that island. A story of humankind, and its relentless attempts to control the cycle of life.
