NO-W-ALL
Berlin, august 1990.
The Wall fell just a few short days ago. In an atmosphere of incredulity,
relief and temporary insanity, the theatre companies Dogtroep from
Amsterdam and Licedei from Moscow perform the theatrical spectacle
'No-W-All'. The Transformer plays a signature role in the performance.
A 10-metre long, sluggish train on giant wooden wheels rolls onto the stage
area, propelled by the exertions of a group of workers. Long, thick ropes
are uncoiled, and men dig their heels into the sand. Swept up by the music
and the audience, the gruelling pulling begins; groaning, the train slowly
rises on its end, metamorphosing into a proud tower.
The Transformer.
